Old houses above the water in Sozopol, south of Burgas

Old towns up the coast

Sozopol

The quieter old harbour town, south of the city.

Sozopol is ancient Apollonia: timber houses leaning over stone walls, fishing boats in two harbours, and a wooded shore beyond the town. It is softer and less crowded than Nessebar.

Come for an afternoon and stay for dinner by the water. The old town is small enough to wander without a plan.
