Old towns up the coast

Pomorie

A salt town on a narrow spit, twenty minutes north.

Pomorie sits on a thin finger of land between the sea and its salt pans, and it has been producing salt since antiquity — the museum in town is the only salt museum in eastern Europe, built around the pans still worked outside it.

There is a long sandy beach, a monastery on the edge of town, and a Thracian domed tomb from the third century. It is the quietest of the near towns and the easiest half-day out of Burgas.
